What are Crystali?

Crystali are a species of anthropomorphic creature, and are the main sentient species that call the world of Nophra their home. They come in 3 subspecies: Mystic, Common and Draconic.

Mystic Crystali

Mystic Crystali are probably the most recognizable subspecies of Crystali. Their crystalline horns and misty tail gives them an eye-catching and ethereal appearance. These features are thanks to their strong innate connection to Nophra's core. Its magic filters through them and sustains them the same way food sustains us humans.

Mystic Crystali have 3 main defining traits:

• Crystalline horns and tails.
• A trail of mist emitted from their tail crystals.
• Special markings that somewhat mirror the look of their crystals, are referred to as magic channels.

These features are usually uniform in color, and are a strong visual representation of their element. The appearance of these things as a whole is usually referred to as being their 'Aura'.

Horns

All Mystic Crystali have horns. They can range from a basic cluster behind their ears to more elaborate formations like antlers.

Tail

All Mystic Crystali possess a cluster of crystals around their sacrum/hip area. This cluster constantly vents a trail of mist.

The mist itself usually doesn't feel like much to the touch. A fire element might have an unusually warm mist while an earth element's mist might smell pleasantly mossy.

Depending on a variety of things such as emotional state, energy levels and overall ambient power, it can also have traces of elemental magic in it such as embers in a fire elemental or water droplets in a water one.

Magic Channels

Magic channels (sometimes known simply as channels) refers to the sharp and rune-like markings that Mystic Crystali have. They do not always have to resemble symbols per se, but they are always fine markings that vaguely reflect one's element. A Crystali with lightning magic will most likely have erratic and jagged magic channels, while one with wind magic might have a softer, curvier pattern to them.

Their positioning and body coverage varies wildly.

The magic channels are a part of their skin, the fur that grows from them is similar to fibreglass.

Common Crystali

Common Crystali are a lot like their Mystic cousins, since they are also connected to Nophra's core. However, they do not have a constant flow of magic filtering through them. They are born with an element that visually presents itself in their claws and eye color, but they lack magic channels, crystal horns and the signature misty tail.

Common Crystali have no ability to use magic on their own.

Draconic Crystali

Draconic Crystali are hybrids. The only beings capable of hybridizing with Crystali are Nophra's Dragons. The combination of these two species is highly varied in terms of appearance as well as levels of power. Both Mystic and Common Crystali can produce Draconic offspring.

Draconic Crystali are often shapeshifters, having both a Crystali form and a Dragon one. Which one they default to is based entirely on personal preference.

Dragons seldom ever wish to bond, let alone with a 'lesser' species, making Draconic Crystali an exceptionally rare sight.
